Solution[]

Alphonse Covet: Detective, I haven't seen you around. Did you hear the news?

Detective: I'm not into press lately. What's happening?

Alphonse Covet: The Dockers Union is on strike. Personally, I have nothing against blue collar workers, but they crossed the line. They clashed with police officers because of the sugar ban!

Detective: Well, like I said, people aren't very happy about that ban, sir. You need to have that in mind.

Alphonse Covet: Being unhappy is one thing, but clashing with the law? What if those dockers are working for someone from the sugar mob? You better talk with the commissioner!

Witnesses[]

James Valentino: Let's get this straight. I'm not a union buster, but those dockers got pretty angry during their last protest. If this keeps up, this will turn sour.

Detective: The mayor suggested that someone might be manipulating the workers.

James Valentino: That's why I need you out there. If you can track down the ringleader, maybe we can put an end to this madness before someone gets hurt.

Detective: No one wants to talk to me. Is it so obvious that I'm on the mayor's payroll?

If you win:

Detective: Wow, there's a lot of angry people out there. Not long ago, the city rewarded dockers with candy for their hard work. But now, with the sugar ban, they get the same, meager rations as everyone else.

Detective: Luckily, one of the protesters gave me a description of the man leading them.

Suspect identification: Leader of the People[]

Detective: to get some definite answers, I should confront the person leading the strike.

Vic Loiter: Yeah. Not long ago I got so much candy, it was enough for four people. Now I hardly get enough for one!

Detective: That was a whole lot of candy, alright. What did you do with it? Did you sell it?

Vic Loiter: Hold on buddy. Are you suggesting that I'm some kind of candy peddler? You better leave now or I'll lose my temper!

Crime scene search: Something Fishy[]

Detective: I blew it with the union leader, but I think I'm on the right track. The dockers obviously had a surplus of candy. What were they doing with it?

When you find the secret case:

Bob Chabon: Hey, you! Don't touch this. That's my bait!

Detective: Sorry, buddy. I'm a detective, looking for some hidden candy.

Bob Chabon: A detective, huh? I'm a member of the Sea Angler's Association. You might be just who I need. Give me a call when you're free, alright?

If you fail:

Detective: I wanted to show you... uh...

James Valentino: There's nothing here. Now excuse me, I need to get back to work.

If you win:

Detective: Just take a peek through the window, alright?

James Valentino: What's this? Vic Loiter gave all that candy to his kid!

Detective: Yeah. It's his son's birthday. He's been gathering candy rations for some time now, so his kid could have a nice present.

James Valentino: So the dockers are innocent, after all. I'll call off my officers. I have a grandson too, you know.

Detective: You should get inside, talk with Mr. Loiter. I'm sure you can talk through your differences.

Finale[]

If you fail:

Detective: I'm sorry, mayor, but I guess I can't figure out what the protesters are up to.

Alphonse Covet: Don't bother. I already ordered the commissioner to disperse the crowds using every means, if neccesary

If you win:

Alphonse Covet: Commissioner Valentino just told his officers to back down. What happened?

Detective: Apparently the dockers just wanted some candy for their children. The kids were really disappointed when the rations were cut short. When Valentino got wind of that, he pulled out his officers.

Alphonse Covet: So? That's no reason to cut them slack! Can't you see that? People need see that candy leads to crime and violence!

Detective: What? Are you telling me you're disappointed that the affair resolved peacefully?

Alphonse Covet: You clearly can't see the big picture, do you? I'm done talking with you, detective. Ask my assistant for your pay on the way out.
