A robber strikes a helpless lady. This will not stand.

"An unknown man called me to the break-in at Patience de Monde's house. I grabbed my coat and was on the way in seconds."

Solution[]

Marcus Sachs: Detective, I need your assistance. I'm a... friend of Patience de Monde. There was a break-in at her home.

Detective: That's awful. Are you on the spot?

Marcus Sachs: Yes, but please, hurry. Patience... Mrs. de Monde is very upset.

Witnesses[]

Marcus Sachs: I'm Marcus Sachs. Like I said, I'm her friend. She was very distraught by this incident. I told her she can stay at my place till this whole mess is sorted out.

Detective: And what exactly happened?

Marcus Sachs: I... I don't know. I mean, I was here when it happened, but... I got hit on my head pretty badly. Some things went missing, but that's all I can tell. Take care of it, please!

If you fail:

Detective: This is no use. There aren't any clues around the house, and no witnesses heard a thing.

If you win:

Detective: It seems the burglar boldly broke through the back door. During his ransacking, he stumbled upon Mr. Sachs and Mrs. de Monde.

Detective: The attacker was big and heavy, and Sachs barely had a chance. The burglar knocked him out and ran out the back door with some of the loot.

Suspect identification: Mano-a-mano[]

Detective: I was able to piece together what happened. You were knocked out during the fight with the burglar, but managed to scare him off. You probably saved Mrs. de Monde,

Marcus Sachs: Oh my! Yes, I remember now. It's still a bit fuzzy, but I remember. I think I'll be able to describe to you how he looked like.

Detective: Great! That'll help me find him.

Solution: Stan Kowalski

If you fail:

Detective: Mrs.[sic] Sach's[sic] memory is still clogged. I can't seem to get anything useful out of him.

If you win:

Detective: Hmmm. I think I know that guy. He's just a petty burglar. It appears he lost his nerve after the scuffle and ran for the bushes behind the house.

Crime scene search: Bumps and Bruises[]

Detective: I've got the ID, but I still need a way to find the thief. He ran away from the crime scene - maybe he left something behind?

If you fail:

Detective: No luck. No footprints, no fingerprints, no nothing. I'm at a loss here.

If you win:

Detective: What's this? A flyer from the Happy Day Inn. There's a note written on it with the time of the burglary. The thief must've lost it - and now it'll lead me straight to him!

City search:Just for the Night[]

Detective: There are several Happy Day Inn motels in the city. I need to find out where the thief is staying.

The burglar is hiding:

  • not more than 4 from a hospital
  • not more than 2 from a restaurant
  • not more than 1 from the stadium
  • more than 1 from landmarks
  • exactly 3 from a hotel
  • On the map there are 2 restaurants
  • On the map there are 2 landmarks
  • On the map there are 2 hotels

Solution: (4,8)

If you fail:

Detective: Darn, I think he got away. Mrs.[sic] Sachs won't be happy knowing the crook is still at large...

If you win:

Stan Kowalski: Whoa. Who are you? Wait, I heard about you... You're some kind of a cop!

Detective: How could you attack an old lady in her own home? I bet you still have her belongings with you.

Stan Kowalski: It was a mistake! The house supposed to be empty!

Detective: Who told you that?

Stan Kowalski: Some tough crook, at a bar, He was eating jelly beans. I wrote down the time and date on a flyer just to be sure, but lost it somewhere. That's all I remember.

Detective: You'll repeat that to the officer at the police station.

Finale[]

If you fail:

Detective: I'm sorry, Mr. Sachs. The crooks[sic] is still at large. I can't seem to find him.

Marcus Sachs: Oh my. I didn't want to involve the police, they are usually... insensitive, and Patience is a really delicate lady.

Detective: I think you don't have a choice right now.

Marcus Sachs: Yeah, I don't. Now, if you excuse me, I need to be there for Patience.

If you win:

Detective: You can tell Mrs. de Monde that she can go back to her home now. The crook is behind bars.

Marcus Sachs: That's great! I'll break the news to her.

Detective: One more thing, Mr. Sachs. The burglar told me that the house supposed to be empty?

Marcus Sachs: That's weird. We planned to stay inside the whole time. Well, if anything new comes up, just give me a call. Here, have my card.

Detective: "Marcus Sachs, manager of the First City Bank" Wow, I'm honored!

Marcus Sachs: The honor is mine, to meet such a brilliant detective!
