"Apparently Malone lost something that is very important in the candy business - you need to get it before Malone does."

SolutionEdit

Leonardo McLean: You need to cancel your date with Lucy for tonight, quick!

Detective: Can I ask why, before I do something that puts both my love life and my life in jeopardy?

Leonardo McLean: It's been a while since I started infiltrating Malone's organization, and I finally have something good. I risked my life to get you this info. So, you're in it or not?

Detective: *sigh* Maybe Lucy will forgive me if I bring her a mobster's head on the platter. Let's go.

Leonardo McLean: We need to cancel our date, honey.

Detective: Can I ask why, before I do something that puts both our love life and your life in jeopardy?

Leonardo McLean: It's been a while since I started infiltrating Malone's organization, and I finally have something good. I risked my life to get you this info. So, you're in it or not?

Detective: You should have just told me you're planning to take me mob hunting on our date. C'mon!

WitnessesEdit

Leonardo McLean: The situation is this: Malone is furious. Apparently something very important for him is missing, and he wants it back. I think he was double-crossed by someone.

Leonardo McLean: Malone said that it's going to give him an edge in the candy trade, so I assume it's something very bad.

Detective: We need to follow Malone's most wanted people. Maybe they know something.

Detective: I've got it! Malone's looking for something called "synthetic sugar"... Whatever this is.

Leonardo McLean: I've heard about that! You can produce candy from otherwise harmless, everyday resources. You just need a special formula.

Suspect identification: Sugar and Spice and Everything NiceEdit

Detective: A special formula you say? Who could have invented something like that?

Leonardo McLean: Someone highly interested in candy, that's for sure.

Solution: Alan Eisenberg

Leonardo McLean: What, this guy? He invented synthetic sugar?

Detective: Yeah. Do you know him? Apparently after Jameson's arrest, Eisenberg vanished. I wonder where is he now.

Leonardo McLean: Swimming with the fishes in Twin Lakes, I'm afraid. Malone kept him locked in a lab, and then decided he was no longer useful.

Detective: Wait a minute. If Eisenberg was forced to make synthetic sugar, why doesn't Malone have the formula?

Leonardo McLean: There is only one way to find out. I need to get back to Malone.

Crime scene search: Enjoy the SilenceEdit

Leonardo McLean: Listen, pal. Malone is meeting with his men in a sweeteasy. You know, one of those illegal joints selling candy.

Detective: Yeah, I know. Go on.

Leonardo McLean: I know, we'll be talking about the synthetic sugar formula. If you could just listen in on the meeting...

Detective: ...I could act before you finish! That might be tricky, but I'll try.

Leonardo McLean: Listen, Honey. Malone is meeting with his men in a sweeteasy. You know, one of those illegal joints selling candy.

Detective: You took me to a sweeteasy for a date once, didn't you remember? Get to the point, honey.

Leonardo McLean: I know, we'll be talking about the synthetic sugar formula. If you could just listen in on the meeting...

Detective: ...I could act before you finish! Wish me luck, sweetie!

If you enter the room south of VIP room:

Big Tea: The VIP room is off limits! Scram before Mr Malone gets angry!

Detective: Sure thing. I'm on my way.

Detective: I won't be able to listen in on Malone through the front. Maybe there's some other way...

If you enter the room north of VIP room

Tony Malone: Mmmhmhmhhmm? Ghmhmhhmh!

Rufus Sefirosu: Ghmhmmh mhmhm. Bhahmahghm!

Detective: The wall over here is quite thin, bit I still only hear some garbled snatches of the conversation.

Detective: Maybe something in this room could help me hear better through the wall!

If you examine the glass on the table

Detective: I can put a glass to the wall and hear clearly Malone and his lackeys!

Tony Malone: ... and that's how I figured it out. So, are we clear on the plan?

Rufus Sefirosu: Yeah. I've got the directions written down. I'll take McLean with me as backup.

Tony Malone: When you reach the spot, look for the place that's selling snacks. That's the only place where he could have hidden the formula.

City search: Secret of HappinessEdit

Leonardo McLean: Are you there? I can't talk long. The scientist managed to hide the formula, but Malone finally figured out where.

Detective: Yes, I know! The taxi's waiting and I just need to know where are you going!

Leonardo McLean: Rufus hasn't told me everything. I'll give you what I got, and try to stall him for a while. Get there before us!

The formula is:

  • exactly 3 from a hotel
  • more than 3 from schools
  • not more than 5 from a fast food
  • more than 2 from warehouses
  • in the distance of 1 from water
  • more than 2 from post offices
  • more than 2 from press buildings
  • not 2 from police stations
  • more than 2 from clubs
  • On the map there are 4 hotels
  • On the map there are 2 schools
  • On the map there are 2 fast foods
  • On the map there are 2 warehouses

Solution: (4,7)

Detective: Here it is, hidden in the pop-corn maker of a hot-dog stand!

Detective: Hmmm, Rufus and Leo will be here in a matter of minutes. How can I sabotage their attempt to get the formula?

Detective: Oh, I know. Just add a bit too much pop-corn into the machine and turn it on...

FinaleEdit

Leonardo McLean: You could have warned me!

Detective: Oh? What happened?

Leonardo McLean: The moment we got there, the pop-corn machine exploded. Kernels went flying everywhere! It was just like during the war!

Detective: You never fought in the war, Leo.

Leonardo McLean: Hey, it was really dangerous, OK? Luckily, your plan worked. The formula was blown to smithereens.

Detective: I just hope Malone doesn't suspect you.

Leonardo McLean: Not a chance, buddy. Hey, why don't you take Lucy to the fun fair? You can make up for that canceled date with clowns and pop-corn!

Detective: Didn't you already try the "war hero" routine on me, Leo?

Leonardo McLean: Hey, it was really dangerous, OK? Luckily, your plan worked. The formula was blown to smithereens.

Detective: I just hope Malone doesn't suspect you.

Leonardo McLean: I don't think so. I was with Rufus the whole time, Speaking of time, want to go out on a fun fair date? They have clowns and pop-corn!
